KipperTie has announced the launch of its new Strata Electro mounts, which are innovative electronic lens mounts with a built-in neutral density (ND) filter system.
These mounts feature ND filters ranging from clear to ND 2.1, adjustable in one-stop increments. The control of these ND settings can be managed both manually and remotely.
Product Features and Compatibility
The Strata Electro mounts are designed to be compact and versatile, making them suitable for smaller camera bodies such as the RED KOMODO and Sony FX3. However, using them on certain camera models may require additional accessory brackets. These mounts are initially available in three variations: RF to EF, RF to PL, and E to PL, with plans to expand the lineup to include L to PL and Z to PL in the future.
Enhanced Control and Integration
A standout feature of the Strata Electro is its electronically controlled ND system, which can be adjusted via switches on the mount or remotely using various control protocols from ARRI, CMotion, and Teradek. This remote functionality is especially useful in situations where the camera is not easily accessible. Additionally, the mounts include a USB-C port for power supply and future firmware updates. However, there is no integration with the RED UI for remote control at this time.
Lens Compatibility and Limitations
The Strata Electro mounts are compatible with full-frame sensors and have a rear depth similar to KipperTie’s Revolva mounts. Nonetheless, lenses with very deep rear elements, such as certain vintage lenses or the newer NiSi Athena series, may not be compatible with these mounts.
Pricing and Availability
The first model to be released will be the RF to PL version, followed by the RF to EF and E to PL models. Each mount is priced at approximately $2,200 USD. These products are expected to start shipping within the next few months. Additional costs will apply for necessary mounting brackets and accessories.
