At the recent Prolight + Sound event in Frankfurt, Lawo, a leading provider of audio and video technology solutions for the entertainment industry, and zactrack, a company specializing in VR, AR, and XR technologies for the same sector, hosted the “Theater Future Tech Reception.”
This event offered attendees a preview of the future of automated, object-based audio mixing processes.
Lawo and zactrack Collaboration
Lawo presented its integration with zactrack’s advanced stage tracking technology through its renowned mc² audio production consoles. This collaboration enables automated mixing workflows for stereo, surround, and immersive audio, utilizing real-time performer tracking data.
Advanced Tracking Technology by zactrack
zactrack’s Radio Tracking system, which employs Ultra-Wide-Band real-time location technology, is designed for various settings including open-air events, theater stages, and TV studios. It allows for the precise tracking of performers or objects in both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spaces. The technology ensures that lighting, video projections, cameras, and immersive sound are perfectly aligned with the movements of performers or objects.
Seamless Audio Integration
The system integrates seamlessly with Lawo’s mc² audio mixers, enabling automated audio panning and elevation adjustments for 3D audio systems. This integration utilizes Lawo’s unique capability for click-less delay adjustments, allowing for up to 1.8 seconds of delay without creating audible artifacts during live performances. This feature is crucial for maintaining a natural listening experience for the audience.
A Practical Demonstration
During the event, zactrack and Lawo demonstrated the practical application of these technologies by running a zactrack mini system on Lawo’s booth. Manuel Ewers, Global Sales Manager at zactrack, highlighted the benefits of this integration, noting that it not only streamlines audio mixing workflows but also enhances the acoustic experience for audiences while providing performers with the freedom to move around the stage.
A Milestone in Live Performance Audio
The partnership between Lawo and zactrack, showcased at Prolight + Sound, represents a significant advancement in dynamic, automated, and immersive audio applications for live performances. It lays the groundwork for delivering immersive live audio experiences through modern multichannel audio systems.
