Simmod Lens has launched a range of LPL lens mounts and camera mount adapters that allow you to adapt vintage glass to a wide range of cameras.
Before Simmod Lens’s SIMple LPL conversions, adapting vintage stills lenses to high-end cameras typically meant costly cine re-housing or PL conversions. Now, users can easily adapt lenses like Canon FD/nFD, Leica R, and Nikon F to the LPL mount without breaking the bank.
The SIMple kit offers versatility, allowing the same lens to fit cameras such as the ARRI Alexa Mini LF or Sony A7S III. These LPL mounts ensure a secure connection, eliminating lens wobble. Made entirely of brass, they’re adjustable with included shims and easy to install.
Additional features include the SIMple Fit follow focus gear and a cine lens cap. For Canon FD lenses, an enhanced Edmika DCG aperture ring is available for refined iris control.
LPL
The ARRI LPL, or “Large Positive Lock” mount, is a groundbreaking lens mount tailored for digital capture, surpassing the older PL mount’s constraints. With a wider diameter (62mm compared to PL’s 55mm), it’s compatible with ARRI Alexa models, Sony Venice versions, and most RED DSMC2 and DSMC3 cameras.
As ARRI champions the LPL, it’s poised to be the upcoming standard lens mount. Simmod’s affordable LPL solutions offer users more versatility, accelerating the mount’s adoption. For rental houses awaiting vintage lens rehousing, which can take years, Simmod’s LPL conversion kit provides an interim solution without altering optics, preserving the option for full rehousing later.
LPL adapters
Once a vintage lens is converted to LPL, you will need an LPL adapter to connect to your camera. The high price of LPL adapters currently on the market is prohibitive for most end users, so Simmod Lens solved this problem by coming out with its own range of professional-grade LPL adapters that sell at a much lower price point than the current alternatives. Available for LPL to Sony E, LPL to RF, LPL to L-mount, and LPL to PL each adapter is robustly constructed of solid brass and stainless steel.
The LPL adapters are anodized in a non-reflective, non-ghosting black finish, and come complete with shims. Each adapter has removable ‘ears’ that give additional leverage when rotating the locking collar. If additional clearance is required for particular lenses these tabs can even be reversed.
