The Telos Alliance, a renowned leader in broadcast audio solutions for over 30 years, is set to introduce Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos encoding as a new feature in its Linear Acoustic LA-5300 Broadcast Audio Processor.
This addition positions the LA-5300 as a comprehensive solution for television broadcasters, offering advanced loudness control, upmixing, and optional watermark encoding features alongside Next Generation Audio capabilities through Dolby AC-4.
Enhanced Audio Processing and Encoding Options
With the forthcoming software update, the LA-5300 will support Dolby Digital Plus with JOC (Joint Object Coding), commonly known as Atmos, as an optional licensed feature. This update enables broadcasters to deliver object-based immersive audio through various distribution channels, including streaming services and ultra-high definition cable and satellite feeds, even if they do not use the Dolby AC-4 codec.
Universal Solution for Immersive Audio Broadcasting
Larry Schindel, the Linear Acoustic Product Manager, highlighted the significance of this update, stating it broadens the LA-5300’s applicability as a versatile audio processor and encoder. It caters to the needs of both over-the-air broadcasters utilizing Dolby AC-4 for immersive audio and those distributing content through streaming platforms with Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos.
Comprehensive Program Support
The LA-5300 is capable of managing up to four separate audio programs simultaneously, providing distinct encoded streams for main program audio, Secondary Audio Program (SAP), and video descriptive services.
Availability of the Update
The software update that introduces Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos encoding to the LA-5300 is scheduled to be available by the end of the second quarter of 2024. It will be accessible through the extensive network of Linear Acoustic channel partners.
