Google Cloud launches AI recommendation tool for media companies

Vertex AI Search aims to increase viewer engagement

Google Cloud has recently launched a new AI-driven feature named Vertex AI Search, tailored for the media and entertainment sector. This advanced tool offers customized media suggestions to help users discover content that aligns with their individual preferences. According to a study by Harris Poll commissioned by Google Cloud, 79% of people have maintained their subscriptions due to discovering new content, indicating the potential of personalized recommendations in increasing viewer engagement and platform retention, which could boost revenue.

Vertex AI Search, already becoming vital for media and entertainment businesses, enhances audience connection by offering tailored content recommendations using generative AI. Anil Jain, Google Cloud’s Strategic Consumer Industries Managing Director, emphasized the significance of these newly released capabilities in helping media companies attract and keep their audience.

Building on Google’s expertise in developing platforms like YouTube and Google News, as well as e-commerce product recommendations, Vertex AI Search utilizes user behavior data, such as article reading and video watching habits, to discern patterns. This enables it to offer predictions about content that might interest the user. The tool dynamically adjusts its recommendations to suit the changing preferences and moods of users in real time.

Moreover, Vertex AI Search analyzes the content across various articles and videos to find similarities, thus suggesting content similar to what users have previously enjoyed. As a fully managed service with an easy-to-use API, it can be integrated into various consumer interfaces like websites, TV, mobile apps, and newsletters. This allows media companies to deploy top-notch personalized recommendation systems without overburdening their engineering teams.
