Sony Introduces Firmware V3.00 for VENICE 2 Camera

Sony’s latest firmware update, V3.00, for the VENICE 2 camera introduces significant improvements for shooting in virtual production environments.

The update allows for better color reproduction of human skin tones when filming against an LED wall by adjusting the color temperature and the mix of LED and natural lighting. Additionally, changes to the genlock phase are now instantly applied, simplifying the synchronization of the camera’s imaging phase with the panel’s light emission.

Live Production Features Enhanced

For live production settings, the firmware update brings new flexibility. With RM/RCP Paint Control disabled, users can decide if they want to manage the white balance and shutter functions remotely, for example, using the RM-B170 unit. When RM/RCP Paint Control is enabled, it is now possible to select a Look as a LUT for video outputs, including the support for User 3D LUTs. New to the Paint menu are saturation and skin detail adjustments when RM/RCP Paint Control is active.

Other Notable Improvements

The update also introduces the ability to set a frame rate of 33.33 FPS for certain project frame rates, enhancing flexibility for music video productions to avoid flicker. For cinematographers using 2x Anamorphic lenses, there’s now the option to shoot up to 90 FPS in 5.8K 17:9 imager mode with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, thanks to the Zoom to Fit feature. Issues with flickering and stuttering on the viewfinder when shooting at 60 FPS have been addressed. The firmware allows for Log(Legal) LUT selection, peaking display toggle via an assignable button, and ACES 1.0 Output-Rec.709 LUT for monitor and viewfinder outputs. Additionally, a 2.2:1 aspect marker display is supported, and a Factory Reset option now includes internal memory data such as passwords and User 3D LUTs, alongside menu settings.
