Atomos Updates Firmware: Introduces HDMI Naming

Atomos has introduced a new feature in its AtomOS 11.05.00 update, enabling HDMI cameras to name files similarly to professional SDI-Cine cameras.

This is particularly beneficial for users of Nikon’s Z9, allowing them to record high-quality proxy clips on their Atomos recorders that have matching file names with the clips recorded internally. This feature simplifies the process of replacing proxies with high-quality footage when using Camera to Cloud workflows through Atomos Connect-enabled devices, compatible with services like Frame.io and Sony CI Media.

NDI Integration Enhancements

The latest firmware also enhances NDI (Network Device Interface) capabilities by adding NDI RX (Receive) alongside the existing NDI TX (Transmit) functionality. This allows users to receive video feeds via Wi-Fi or Ethernet from various NDI-enabled sources. The update supports multiple resolutions and frame rates but disables recording while in NDI RX mode. Atomos has also made improvements to NDI TX, enabling recording in multiple codecs while transmitting.

NDI Discovery Server and Usability Upgrades

Atomos has implemented a NDI Discovery Server to alleviate network strain and improve service discovery in large setups. The update also includes usability enhancements such as more informative dialog boxes that explain why certain features may be unavailable, helping users troubleshoot more effectively.

Known Limitations and Future Resolutions

The update notes several limitations, such as potential delays when switching network connections between record and playback modes, and specific scenarios where recording or certain functionalities might be disabled. These issues are slated for resolution in future updates.

This firmware update aims to refine the user experience and expand the functionality of Atomos devices, making them more versatile in professional video production environments.
