At an exclusive online event, Lawo unveiled the HOME mc² DSP app, a microservice-based counterpart to Lawo’s renowned A__UHD Core.

Rastatt,9th April 2024

Introduction to HOME mc² DSP App

As part of the HOME Apps lineup, this app offers ultra-low-latency audio processing with Lawo’s signature quality and flexibility. It seamlessly integrates with mc² mixing consoles or creates a virtual mixing system instantly, making it ideal for on-the-fly audio processing needs in broadcast environments.

Features and Benefits

The HOME mc² DSP app caters to converging video/audio production setups, providing FPGA-level DSP processing in a CPU-based package. It inherits features from the A__UHD Core platform, empowering operators with precise control over audio processing tasks.

As part of the HOME Apps ecosystem, the HOME mc² DSP app benefits from Lawo’s Flex licensing model, allowing users to redistribute subscription credits across various HOME Apps for budget management. Its portability enables easy relocation between production hubs, OB trucks, or remote sites.

Designed for situations without access to an A__UHD Core or where HOME Apps are more practical, the HOME mc² DSP app simplifies the deployment of DSP channels for diverse applications. Despite being CPU-based, it maintains ultra-low latency and seamlessly integrates with Lawo’s hardware-based solutions.

Enabling efficient resource management and reducing power consumption

Operators can effortlessly switch between the HOME mc² DSP app and hardware-based A__UHD Core within the HOME UI, ensuring a consistent user experience. The app adapts to future CPU advancements, offering scalability and support for various audio formats and bus configurations.

With its flexibility and performance, HOME mc² DSP serves as the app-based counterpart to the A__UHD Core, enabling efficient resource management and reducing power consumption.

“HOME mc² DSP leverages the unique granularity and flexibility of the HOME Apps platform regarding input and output media transport protocols,” said Christian Struck, Lawo’s Senior Product Manager, Audio Infrastructure. “It will support mixed-format SMPTE ST2110, NDI, and SRT production environments, and newer formats that may become relevant further down the line. There are no plans to discontinue the A__UHD Core as it remains the processing tool of choice for audio-only workflows in a live-sound context.”

Lucas Zwicker

Lucas Zwicker, Senior Director, Workflow and Integration, CTO Office at Lawo, said: “The introduction of the HOME mc² DSP app is the next milestone in Lawo’s audio history. This is not a lift-and-shift implementationof an existing product: HOME mc² DSP has been carefully reengineered from scratch to cope with tomorrow’s requirements regarding converged audio, video and commodity-based processing infrastructures. Of course, we deliver the sonic performance our customers have come to expect from mc² mixers.”
