Harmonic VOS Media Software at DIRECTV

Harmonic said DIRECTV is upgrading its U.S. direct-to-home video platform with Harmonic VOS Media Software.

The company says the software now supports DIRECTV’s playout-to-delivery workflow. According to Harmonic, the move is designed to cut operating costs and support scalable delivery across DIRECTV’s linear channel lineup.

Harmonic says DIRECTV is using VOS Media Software in its private data center. The company says the platform replaces separate systems with one software-based workflow for playout, processing, branding, and delivery.

According to Harmonic, the software supports broadcast-quality delivery of linear channels. The company also says the playout tools support ad insertion on DIRECTV’s high-value linear and occasional-use channels.

Harmonic says the software supports ad insertion for live events and pay-per-view programming. As a result, DIRECTV can use the platform to support monetization across more channel types.

The company also says DIRECTV has integrated its own automation, storage, and monitoring systems with Harmonic APIs. Therefore, teams can control scheduling, automation, and channel operations more directly.
