Designed to enable the carriage of both compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks, the IPMX (Internet Protocol Media Experience, introduced in 2020) set of specifications and standards addresses the ProAV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous, standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP. In addition to NDI and SMPTE, this new standard is already making its mark.

Society, across all its sectors, creates luxury services or products, including houses, vehicles, jewelry, technology, spas, meals, and many others. The technology sector applied to create, produce, post-produce, issue, distribute, and catalog audio and video is no exception. We find products applicable to what we term as Quality Broadcast, Prosumer, and Consumer. Thus, it’s crucial for every company or individual to clearly define their needs and those of their customers. Afterward, they should consult their business model and invest accordingly. I’ve encountered companies and individuals with vast budgets who purchase the most expensive equipment, even if they only utilize 20% of its capacity.

As soon as a significant investment is made, it’s vital to maximize its benefit, in line with the amortization and depreciation timelines in your accounting books. With the advent of new technologies, it’s often easier to implement them in new projects or companies than in those with existing infrastructure. In the latter, the journey often starts with a hybrid implementation, gradually progressing until full implementation is achieved. Large multinational companies support SMPTE 2120, which typically entails significant research and development costs borne by the implementers, usually major media chains. However, this market will saturate in the medium term. Medium and small independent chains, channels, universities, churches, businesses, etc., also represent a significant revenue source.

In a globalized world the success of a product or service lies in its global implementation, and if it also generates an recurring income for the payment of even better use licenses.

Regarding technological changes, the speed of their implementation is influenced by factors such as initial high costs (to cover R&D expenses), the learning curve of technical support personnel, solution integrators, and operators.

Before there was a clear difference between the engineer dedicated to Broadcast support and the IT engineer, now those worlds have joined and it is necessary Engineers of CASTIT, or of BROIT, or something similar!

Today, the goal is to record with the highest quality, process and archive similarly, and deliver content to users everywhere. This includes remote transmissions that require quality, synchronization, and low latency. Entrepreneurs have numerous options, and many media platforms have democratized their content capture methods.

While I don’t have data to definitively confirm or refute the above, based on the information I possess, I can confidently say that improvements in image quality and technologies that enable the globalization of any service will benefit those who can identify the opportunities. Increasingly, SMPTE 2110 is becoming a part of the solutions implemented by companies capable of handling the associated investment, implementation, and operational costs.
