Evertz: New Media Processing Platform

Evertz Announces New Media Processing Platform at NAB 2024

Evertz is set to unveil a groundbreaking media processing platform at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2024.

This platform, known as the RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO, represents the next stage in the evolution of broadcast technology, offering a comprehensive solution for managing both compressed and uncompressed signals in any format. This development positions the RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO as an ideal choice for hybrid broadcast environments and those transitioning to IP-based workflows, succeeding the widely adopted 570ITXE platform.

Core Features and Capabilities

The RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO is designed to address the entirety of signal acquisition needs within the broadcasting and streaming sectors. It introduces multiple transcode paths, facilitating the conversion between various formats and resolutions efficiently and with high fidelity. The support for UHD HEVC decoding and encoding ensures the delivery of 4K content with minimal bandwidth and latency.

In addition to this, the platform incorporates JPEG XS encoding for low-latency video compression, integrated with dependable transport solutions like Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) and Reliable Internet Stream Transport (RIST), making it highly suitable for remote production and cloud-based operations. The RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO is also compatible with SMPTE ST 2110 for up to UHD resolutions, catering to the industry-standard IP-based media transport, and supports both SDR and HDR, aligning with the expanding requirements for color space normalization.

Versatility and Integration

Evertz designed the RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO with flexibility and scalability in mind, ensuring it can seamlessly integrate into existing or newly developed media workflows. The device supports up to four transcodes simultaneously, with each path capable of handling a variety of compressed and uncompressed inputs, including JPEG XS, JPEG-2000, HEVC, H.264, MPEG 2, SDI, and SMPTE ST 2110. The output from each transcode path offers multiple stages, providing SDI legacy output, uncompressed ST 2110 output, high bitrate mezzanine encode, low bitrate IPTV encode, and a high bitrate low latency output in either JPEG-2000 or JPEG XS. This dynamic scalability is a testament to the platform’s adaptability to specific workflow requirements.

Impact and Vision

Evertz’s introduction of the RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation in media processing and IP solutions. Rajvir Singh, the Technical Product Manager for Compression Systems at Evertz, highlighted the platform’s significance as a transformative tool for broadcasters and streamers, capable of handling diverse media formats, resolutions, and protocols with unmatched quality and performance. The RFK-ITXE-HW-DUO is not merely a product but a comprehensive platform that aims to unlock new business opportunities and revenue streams in the broadcasting and streaming industry.
